Peruvian Wire Crochet
During the COVID lock-down I was looking for ways to calm down the anxiety and took an online course on wire crochet. From that moment on I became so hooked on it that I went on to proceed with a full certification course and several specialized courses with very particular techniques to learn how to modify the wire.
Peruvian Wire Crochet, Punto Peruano in Spanish, is a unique technique for using your crochet hook and a fine gauge copper wire (or other similar metals) creating a gorgeous net made of wire. This technique involves the creation of a two-step stitch and modifying it in innumerable ways to create two dimensional and three dimensional pieces.
Because it is better worked on smaller pieces (relatively, here word of caution as not to generalize too much) it is perfect for jewelry and small decorations in metal without the use of a torch. For me this was an important decision factor to pursue this technique, working without a torch as I did not have a jewelry studio at that time.
The preferred metal of work is copper due to its easiness to find in the market, the abundance of colors available, glow, durability and easy care. Copper is such a noble metal that has become a favorite and when worked with beads, crystals, pearls on a base with stitched wire it is absolute beauty.
